We hope you are all well 🙂 The HOLIDAYS approach and I am excited this year to share this time of year with my new partners. We have come up with a few ideas for celebrating here at Happyknits and this is a quick run over of the events we have planned. More details to come in the future as each date gets closer.
As most of you know, we are hosting the Wine & Twine at the Pickup Café (downstairs in the Somerset Gristmill building). We are hoping to join forces with the Pickup for many such events in the future if all goes well and you are all interested. We decided to keep the first attempt very simple. On November 15, a Saturday, from 4-6, we will meet at the Pickup and enjoy a laid back afternoon of knitting/crocheting/socializing. The Pickup staff will be there to take orders on appetizers, which they have graciously offerered to discount for Happyknits customers by 20%! We can also order beer and wine from them at their already discounted HAPPYHOUR prices. We will visit with each other and sample their food and drinks until 6:00 when the dinner crowd starts to roll in. Of course if you are interested, you can stay on and order dinner at the Pickup Café as well, but if not we will clear out so they have room to seat more customers. All of the Happyknits staff will be there…..it’s gonna be fantastic!!
A couple weeks from now, November 28, of course is Black Friday, or Plaid Friday as we small businesses like to call it. Plaid Friday is a great shopping day if you want a good deal. Happyknits wants to make you bargain hunters happy so we are offering the Gift Certificate Special on Plaid Friday for one day! You won’t have the opportunity to get this deal again until June, so if you like it, you should take advantage of it when you can. If you are unfamiliar with this deal, it is a discount on a purchase of a $100 Gift Certificate. If you spend $100 on gift certificate(s), you get a bonus $25 gift certificate to keep for yourself or to give to a lucky recipient!! This gives you a chance to have a sale on yarn at your favorite local yarn store (Happyknits ;)) any time of year! Happyknits will be OPEN for regular business hours (10-6) on Plaid Friday! We will also have some other great gift ideas and a notebook designated for your wishlist in the event your husband, kids, friends, dogs want to buy you a gift….we’ll keep it on file for you!
The following day….the very day after Plaid Friday, November 29…is Small Business Saturday, https://www.americanexpress.com/us/content/small-business/shop-small/about/?linknav=us-open-shopsmall-homepage-about. Small Business Saturday is a movement started a few years back to encourage people to stay local and support the small businesses in their area. In celebration and support of this, we have communicated with other local downtown Skowhegan business and are joining together to offer you discounts on your shopping for staying local. Some LOCAL businesses have agreed to offer 10% off your purchase that Saturday when you present a receipt, dated November 29, 2015 from another participating business from whom you made a minimum of a $10 purchase. (Particpating business to be revealed at a later date) 🙂 I think you should have to be adorned in jingle bells too, but I couldn’t get everyone to agree with that requirement 😉
Onward….this brings us to the Holiday Stroll, December 5-7, in Downtown Skowhegan, Maine! First, don’t miss the Parade Friday night! Happyknits will have extended hours that evening until 8pm, so stop in and see Karla….sit for a few minutes….knit….crochet…..buy yarn….sing songs 😉 In the morning, business resumes as usual, with ME 🙂 for normal business hours (9-3) along with the Skowhegan Farmer’s Market. We are busily working on putting together some kits for that weekend….the contents are a surprise…you’ll have to come in to see what we have. (Plus, we don’t really know yet what kits we will be constructing :)) But, in the afternoon, from 3-5, Sarah and Marylou will be here, hosting a knitting/crocheting event with Christmas ornament kits. You will be free to choose which ornament kit you would like and sit and work on it here by our toasty warm fire. We will be getting out more details on this in the future. There will be a small fee attached and a registration for this event. Also, there will be an interactive, FREE Origami group of kids from the Cornville Regional Charter School in our entryway on Saturday as well. Again….more details to come.
So without skipping ahead to soon, this is an FYI blog just for the purpose of giving you the heads up of what’s to come. Enjoy the next couple weeks before all our lives are filled with red and green, and cookies, and music, and shopping, and snow, and santa, and booze 😉 Gotta love it!!
See you all soon I hope….you don’t have to wait until the Holiday season to swing in and say “hi”.
Peace.
