Intermediate/Advanced Knitting Techniques – Monday Nights
We are happy to announce that Amanda will start an advanced knitting class two Mondays a month!! The class will start in February and continue as long as there is interest. Time is 6:30 to 8pm.
If we get a routine group going we can talk about what everyone wants to learn and can schedule around that! With each class, we will work on a sample swatch of the technique and I will also give you a pattern that uses the technique. If you need more help in what we learned the class before, then we can work on that in the next class. As the classes approach, we will post updates and more information on the specific techniques.
Materials needed: 2 or more colors of similar yarn weight (scrap yarn) and appropriate needles for that yarn. DPNs and circular will be helpful. DK to worsted weight will probably be the easiest to work with and to see the pattern.
Syllabus:
February 4th – Bicolor Brioche – A modification of double knitting where one color is prominent on each side.
February 18th – Colorwork (i.e. Fair Isle) – A version of colorwork where your yarns are held in the back and carried throughout the work.
March 4th – Intarsia – A version of colorwork where the yarns are wrapped in the back in order to avoid the carries with Fair Isle.
March 18th – Double Knitting – Truly reversible knitting!
April 1st – Cables I – Hopefully everyone knows what these are! In the first class we will do a basic cable with everything going in 1 direction.
April 15th – Cables II – We will do a more advanced cable with multiple directions and learn how to read a cable chart.
April 29th – Lacework – We will work on the basics of lacework and how to read a lace chart.
May 13th – Entrelac- A unique style of knitting where the end result appears woven.
May 27th – TBD
Cost: Each class is $12. Please sign up with Julie or Sherry at Happyknits ahead of time. If you sign up for more than one class then the cost of each will be $10!
