Introduction to Lacework (with Heather) – Saturdays 10:30am-12:30pm – Are you intimidated, yet intrigued by lacework. Are you ready for a little challenge? Join this class and learn or get some extra practice on several knitting techniques while making a sweet little shawlette. It is a versatile shawl and could be beaded as well. This is a good introduction to short rows which is how it achieves its crescent shape. While this pattern does require knitting with either beads or doing nupps (the latter requires more yardage), it can also be done without either. So, this class will introduce basics of lace knitting, nupps, beads, short rows, things like lifelines, and blocking as well. For people that are really frightened by lace weight yarn- it can be done in heavier weights (ie fingering).
Materials needed:
35 g Lace weight yarn (more yarn needed for nupps)=310 – 440 yards (283 – 402 m)
175 beads (optional)- I would suggest size 6’s
32” US 7 circular needles (gauge is not critical)
Crochet hook (optional) – to make nupps, the same size as knitting needle choice/for beading a size 12 is perfect.
34 stitch markers
This class will run three Saturdays, beginning January 21st, the 28th, and February 4th. The fee is $50. Please call or stop in to sign up 🙂
